  3. We should all take common-sense steps to make sure our data stays safe and secure: use strong passwords with our accounts, and never reuse passwords; employ two-factor authentication on any account that offers it; and avoid clicking strange links in emails or text messages. But even when you follow all those rules, your personal data can still be at risk, strictly because the services you rely on aren't following these rules themselves. Some websites are putting your passwords at riskResearchers at the University of Wisconsin-Madison discovered that a concerning number of browser extensions can access sensitive information that you enter into websites. Think passwords, credit card info, and Social Security numbers. The team behind the discovery says they weren't out looking to break a security story. Instead, they were "messing around with login pages," specifically Google login pages, when they found that the sites' HTML source code could see the passwords they entered in plain text. They turned their sights onto other websites—more than 7,000, reportedly—and found that about 15% of them were also storing sensitive information in plain text. That's over 1,000 websites exposing important data. That, of course, is not supposed to happen: When you enter sensitive data into a website—say, your password into Google's login page—that site shouldn't see your password at all. In short, the sites confirm your passwords through hashing algorithms—essentially, jumbling your password into a code that can be checked against the code the site stores on their end. They can then confirm you entered the right password without ever exposing the actual text. By storing things like passwords and Social Security numbers in plain text, those sites are exposing that data to anyone in the know. Importantly, that includes browser extensions. The researchers claim that 17,300 Chrome extensions—or 12.5% of the extensions available for download on Google's browser—have the permissions they need to view this sensitive plain text data. Think about the permissions you ignore when setting up a new extension, including permissions that give extensions full access to see and change what you enter on a webpage. Researchers didn't expose any extensions by name, as the situation is not necessarily the fault of the extensions, but considering the scope, it's possible some of the extensions you use can access sensitive information you enter in certain sites. Again, legitimate extensions are not the priority: Instead, it's the risk that a developer will create an extension with the intent of scraping sensitive info stored in plain text. While the researchers claim there are no extensions actively abusing this vulnerability yet, this isn't a theoretical problem. Researchers created an extension from scratch that could pull this user data, uploaded it to the Chrome Web Store, and got it approved. They took it down immediately, but proved it's possible for a hacker to get such a malicious extension on the official store. Even if the hacker didn't make the extension, they could acquire a legitimate extension with an existing user base, adjust the code to take advantage of the vulnerability, and spring the updated extension on unsuspecting users. It happens all the time, and not just on Chrome. How to protect your sensitive data from malicious browser extensionsUnfortunately, there's little you can do to prevent these sites from storing your passwords, credit cards, and Social Security numbers in plain text. The hope is, following these discoveries, websites will improve their security and kill the vulnerabilities on their end. But that's on them, not you. There are some steps you can take to mitigate the damage, however. First, make sure to limit your use of browser extensions. The fewer extensions you use, the less likely it is you'll use a malicious one. Use only extensions you fully trust, and frequently check in on updates. If the extension changes hands to a new developer, vet that new owner before continuing to use it. You could even disable your extensions when sharing sensitive information with websites. If you need to provide your Social Security number on an official web form, for example, you could disable your extensions to prevent them from reading the data. You can also limit the data you share that could stored in plain text. If given the option, use passkeys instead of passwords, as passkeys don't actually use any plain text data that hackers could steal. Similarly, use secure payment systems, such as Apple Pay or Google Pay, which don't actually share your credit card information with the website you're making a payment on. The name of the game is to avoiding typing out your sensitive details unless absolutely necessary—and then, reducing the parties who can see those details. View the full article

  6. As backlash over Bad Bunny’s Super Bowl LX halftime show rippled through conservative media, a notable group of right-leaning commentators broke with President Donald The President to defend the performance—in some cases walking back their own earlier criticism. Despite Bad Bunny’s message of love and unity, the performance has been placed squarely at the center of the culture war in recent weeks. After initially calling for viewers to turn off the halftime show and labeling Bad Bunny a “fake American citizen” who “publicly hates America,” influencer and boxer Jake Paul, 29, has now claimed amnesia over his viral rant. “Guys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my twitter last night ?? wtf,” he posted on Monday morning. He also claimed his initial post was “misinterpreted” online, clarifying that it was Bad Bunny’s values he was calling “fake” not his citizenship. Guys i love bad bunny idk what happened on my twitter last night ?? wtf — Jake Paul (@jakepaul) February 9, 2026 The overnight switch-up might be less a change of heart and more a reaction to the tide of public opinion turning against him. Even his brother and fellow influencer publicly disagreed with the take. Logan Paul replied to the post, writing: “I love my brother but I don’t agree with this Puerto Ricans are Americans & I’m happy they were given the opportunity to showcase the talent that comes from the island.” “A ‘fake American citizen?’” Rep. Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez also responded on Monday on X. “Didn’t you MOVE to Puerto Rico to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry?” A “fake American citizen?” Didn’t you MOVE to Puerto Rico to avoid paying your taxes while kids across America go hungry? Meanwhile Benito actually funds low income kids’ access to arts and sports programs, while you defund them. Of course you’re mad. He makes you look small. https://t.co/lLfY8pcBLn — Alexandria Ocasio-Cortez (@AOC) February 9, 2026 Mike Nellis, former Senior Advisor to Vice President Kamala Harris, also chimed in to say: “Future historians will mark Jake Paul’s meltdown over Bad Bunny as the moment the left officially won the culture war.” President Donald The President was another vocal critic of Bad Bunny’s halftime show, taking to Truth Social to call it “absolutely terrible, one of the worst, EVER,” in a social media post on Sunday. But by Monday, a number of conservative commentators and The President ally’s had hit back at the President. Anti-woke broadcaster Piers Morgan, who has previously been friendly towards the president, responded on Monday: “Couldn’t disagree more, Mr President. I absolutely loved Bad Bunny’s halftime show… Oh, and Spanish is 1st language for 50m+ Americans!” Couldn’t disagree more, Mr President. I absolutely loved Bad Bunny’s halftime show. Amazing (best in Super Bowl history?) theatre/choreography, great energy, superbly confident performance, and a very welcome unifying message. Oh, and Spanish is 1st language for 50m+ Americans! pic.twitter.com/9rVUEmisRI — Piers Morgan (@piersmorgan) February 9, 2026 “I’m sorry but I just genuinely question your taste level if you didn’t enjoy the Bad Bunny halftime show,” Republican Meghan McCain also posted on X. “And everything in life doesn’t have to be ruined with politics.” I’m sorry but I just genuinely question your taste level if you didn’t enjoy the Bad Bunny halftime show. And everything in life doesn’t have to be ruined with politics. — Meghan McCain (@MeghanMcCain) February 9, 2026 Bad Bunny spotlighted Puerto Rican culture in a 13-minute spectacle at Levi’s Stadium in Santa Clara, California, reaching an estimated 135.4 million viewers. Over on YouTube, Turning Point USA streamed its own alternative concert featuring Kid Rock, Brantley Gilbert, and two other country artists, which peaked at about 6.1 million concurrent viewers. 7. Traditional TV works best for live events, and for many people, that means sports. Most of the online services providing access to traditional TV, however, don't allow you to only subscribe to sports. That's going to change. Today YouTube TV announced new plans that are a little bit cheaper than the current cost of $82.99 per month. Among them is a $64.99-per-month Sports plan, which includes access to the big national sports channels including FS1, NBC Sports Network, and all of the ESPN channels, along with access to network television. Basically, if a game is broadcast nationally, this package should give you access. And it will eventually give you access to many out-of-market—the post mentions that ESPN Unlimited will be part of the bundle starting in the fall. The new plan is only an $18 discount over the "main" YouTube TV plan, but if you're already paying for YouTube TV and are only ever watching sports, this could be a nice discount, particularly if you get access to ESPN Unlimited. There are a few other discounted plans included in the announcement: The Sports + News package adds CNBC, Fox News, MSNow (formerly MSNBC), CNN, and more to the sports bundle, and costs $71.99. That's only $11 cheaper than the full plan, but is still a nice discount if you were only watching sports and news. But maybe the biggest savings are for people who don't want to watch sports at all. The Entertainment plan costs $54.99, which is $28 cheaper than the main plan ($336 cheaper per year). If you only watch entertainment channels, with no news or sports, this is the package to look into. There will be more than 10 plans like this rolling out in the next few weeks, according to YouTube TV. I've long dreamed of a world where I could pay only for the cable channels I care about at an affordable rate. This isn't perfect, but it's a bit closer than what YouTube TV offered before. 8. Investor and Shark Tank star Kevin O’Leary once declared that to succeed in business you must be willing to grind out 25 hour work days. He has since walked back on that idea, calling it, in his own words, “sheer stupidity.” In fact: “The worst advice I hear young founders talk about all the time is that they want to work 18 hours a day. How stupid is that?” O’Leary said in a video posted on his Instagram page last week. The eat-sleep-work lifestyle—also known as the “996” schedule first imported from China, which stands for 9 a.m. to 9 p.m., six days a week—has since gained momentum among Silicon Valley tech companies. Despite his previous declarations, O’Leary says it’s high time to put that idea to bed. “You’ve got to get some sleep, you have to eat well to stay focused,” he says. “That’s how you’re successful.” Being tired is practically a personality trait in corporate America. Harvard University research found 55% of CEOs get six hours of sleep a night or less. Yet, research consistently shows that productivity is closely tied to sleep. One 2019 study found that sleep-deprived entrepreneurs were more likely to favor weaker business ventures, failing to look past the surface-level features of new business ideas to understand their long-term potential. For the sleepless founder, making important decisions also becomes more difficult after a long day of work, as the effects of decision fatigue start to take hold. “There’s lots of evidence that you should make the major decisions right after you wake up when you have the maximum energy and your mind is clear,” O’Leary says. Success should not come at the detriment of your health. “This idea that you don’t get any sleep, as if it’s good for investors, is sheer stupidity,” he says. Eating well, getting sleep, and exercising are his actual secrets to optimization. O’Leary now sees those founders hustling 18 hours a day (or at least, those who look like they’ve been) as poor bets. “If you show up looking half-dead, I’m not investing,” O’Leary wrote in the video caption. “You’re not a hero, you’re a liability.” So, the next time you feel pressure to camp out in the office, take a page out of O’Leary’s playbook and: Go home and get a good night’s rest. Show up to work looking and feeling fresh. Tackle your most important tasks first thing. In doing so, you’ll not only look better and feel better but maybe most importantly. . .work better. 9. On Jan. 19, 2025, someone paid $75.35 to buy a The President meme coin. Today, assuming that investor held the cryptocurrency, the investment has lost 96% of its value. The crypto market has been more volatile than usual in recent weeks. Last week alone saw daily swings of as much as $10,000 in Bitcoin, the leading digital currency, pushing it down to nearly $60,000, a level not seen since 2024. Bitcoin has since recovered somewhat, though it is still hovering near $70,000, well below its $122,000 high last October. But as mainstream cryptocurrencies continue to give investors whiplash, meme coin holders have fared even worse. The The President coin, in mid-morning trading Monday, stood at $3.39, according to CoinMarketCap. The Melania coin, which once traded as high as $13.73, is down roughly 99%, changing hands for about 12 cents. The drop in the The President coin comes roughly a year after it began to lose investor support following The President’s inauguration. Last February, the coin’s market capitalization stood at $3.5 billion, already well below its $14.5 billion peak on the eve of his second inauguration. Today, it has fallen to $1.78 billion. Non-political meme coins have also seen steep declines. Dogecoin, which once flirted with $1 per coin, is now trading just over 9 cents. That represents a 25% decline year to date and a 68% drop since last September. Shiba Inu now costs $0.000006060, meaning that buying 1,650 coins today would cost just under one cent—a 20% drop from its highs last October. Losses over the past week span the broader meme coin market: Pepe fell 13%. Bonk dropped 16%. Pudgy Penguins declined 20%. And pippin slid 35%. (No, we didn’t make any of those names up, and no, it’s not surprising if you haven’t heard of several of them.) Crypto’s turbulence comes amid broader market instability in 2026. Wall Street has experienced its own roller-coaster ride, and even precious metals have been volatile, with silver prices swinging between $71 and $115 since Jan. 1. What makes crypto’s ups and downs particularly noteworthy, though, is the financial stakes held by President Donald The President’s two eldest sons. Eric The President and Donald The President, Jr co-founded American Bitcoin, a publicly-traded bitcoin mining and treasury management company in March of last year. (The stock has fallen from $7.40 per share when it began trading to $1.28 in midday trading Monday.) Eric The President, Donald The President Jr., and 19-year-old Baron The President are also co-founders of World Liberty Financial, a crypto company that is now generating more revenue for the family than the The President real estate business. The Wall Street Journal calculates that the company has brought in at least $1.4 billion for the The President family since The President’s re-election. The sons of The President special envoy Steve Witkoff and Commerce Secretary Howard Lutnick also operate businesses with crypto interests. A White House spokesperson told the Journal that there are no conflicts of interest, as the ventures are run independently by the politicians’ sons. Meme coins have always been risky investments. All too often, they’re rug pulls—get-rich-quick schemes where one entity sees significant returns, but investors are left with useless holdings. And while they might be tied to a pop culture phenomenon or a person, there’s no guarantee there’s any formal relationship between the two. That could be the case with the Melania meme coin. Last October, a lawsuit was filed alleging that the coin’s backers orchestrated a large-scale pump-and-dump scheme involving at least 15 cryptocurrencies, including $MELANIA. The complaint alleged that First Lady Melania The President was used as “window dressing for a crime engineered by Meteora and Kelsier.” “Neither Melania The President nor her representatives knew the project was part of a systemic fraud, and they would not have agreed to any use of her name had they known the truth,” the suit read. 10. Kroger named former Walmart executive Greg Foran as its chief executive officer on Monday, 11 months after the abrupt resignation of its previous CEO. Foran has a reputation as a tech-savvy and detail-oriented leader. He led Walmart’s U.S. division from 2014 to 2019, where he focused on cleaning up stores, ensuring items were in stock, and improving the fresh produce selection. He also introduced online ordering and pickup, and accelerated Walmart’s digital capabilities. Walmart has reshaped itself into a tech-powered retail giant that has leaned heavily into automation and artificial intelligence, and it’s one of the biggest competitive threats to Kroger, the largest stand-alone U.S. supermarket chain. Shares of The Kroger Co. rose nearly 7% in early trading Monday after Kroger said Foran would lead the company. Walmart has become a larger challenge to Kroger and other traditional grocers as Americans increasingly pick up their groceries along with other general goods that Walmart sells. Walmart currently controls around 21% of the U.S. grocery market, compared to 8.5% for Kroger, according to the market research company Numerator. Kroger has also felt pressure from fast-growing discount chains like Aldi and Lidl and online behemoths like Amazon. Kroger proposed a merger with Albertsons in 2022 as a way to better compete with its rivals. But the Federal Trade Commission and two states — Washington and Colorado — sued to block the merger in 2024, saying it would raise prices and lower workers’ wages by eliminating competition. Judges ultimately ruled that the merger should not proceed. Kroger has struggled to adjust as customers increasingly embrace delivery, pickup and ship-to-home for their groceries. The company said in December that its e-commerce sales jumped 17% in the latest quarter. In November, Kroger shuttered automated fulfillment centers in Wisconsin, Maryland and Florida and said it would monitor its five remaining facilities. The company said it found that delivering directly from its stores was faster and cheaper than using the automated facilities, where robots pick and pack groceries. Kroger said the closures could help make its e-commerce business profitable this year. Kroger also recently expanded its partnerships with the third-party delivery services DoorDash and Uber Eats. For years, Kroger had limited what third parties could deliver and instead tried to meet demand with its own delivery drivers. But Kroger has also found that it needs to tread carefully when experimenting with new technology. When some of its stores switched to digital price labels, which allow stores to change prices instantly, state and federal lawmakers questioned whether the company would use the technology to surge prices. Kroger also got heat from lawmakers about a partnership with Microsoft that would place cameras in aisles and offer personalized deals to shoppers based on their gender and age. Foran succeeds Ron Sargent, who has been Kroger’s interim leader since former CEO Rodney McMullen resigned last March. McMullen had been Kroger’s CEO since 2014 and was also the company’s chairman. Kroger said he resigned after an investigation into his personal conduct, which was unrelated to the business but violated its ethics policy. Sargent will continue to serve as Kroger’s chairman to ensure a smooth leadership transition. “Greg is a highly respected operator who knows how to run large-scale retail businesses, strengthen store execution and lead high-performing teams,” Sargent said in a statement. “His leadership style, focus on the customer, commitment to associates, and disciplined approach to execution are the perfect fit for Kroger.” Foran, a New Zealand native, most recently served as CEO of Air New Zealand, where he also improved digital capabilities, led negotiations with the airline’s union and guided it through the pandemic. Kroger, based in Cincinnati, has 2,731 stores operating under various brands, including Ralphs, King Soopers, Smith’s and Fred Meyer. It has 409,000 employees. —By Dee-Ann Durbin, AP business writer View the full article

  14. It’s the day after Super Bowl Sunday, otherwise known as National Hangover Day. Because, let’s face it—even if you have zero interest in football and can’t even remember who won the game, if you’re like many Americans, you probably at least went to a watch party. (If for nothing else than for the joy-bringing halftime show led by the one and only Bad Bunny.) But if you’re feeling a little, er, off today. . .you’re far from alone. According to UKG’s annual Super Bowl Absenteeism Survey, an estimated 26.2 million U.S. employees were anticipated to stay home today. That means, that no matter who wins or loses the Super Bowl, the big loser on Super “Sick Monday” is the workplace. According to Amanda Augustine, resident career expert for TopResume and a Certified Professional Career Coach, per a press release, employers should adjust to the anticipated lower attendance. “For many Americans, the Monday after the Super Bowl comes with a real post-game hangover, and I don’t just mean from the snacks and cocktails. It’s a mix of late nights, disrupted routines, and for some, a case of the post-game blues. Augustine continues, “Instead of forcing employees to power through, employers can get ahead of it by offering simple, creative support, like reminding staff about floating holidays, encouraging half-days for die-hard fans, or even providing small perks like breakfast or coffee to help people ease back into the work week.” When it comes to who rallies and who stays home, there’s a gender divide. New data from TopResume found the men are far more likely to call in “sick” than women. In fact, 9.11% of men said they were already planning to stay home after this year’s Super Bowl. Only 3.37% of women said they’d take the day to rest. Some age groups are more likely to suck it up and head to the office no matter how many Bud Heavies they housed while screaming at the TV and inhaling chicken wings. Only 13.08% of Gen X and 6.82% of Boomer workers say they have ever called in sick after Super Bowl celebrations. Likewise, only 3.49% of Gen Xers said they planned to do so this year and 1% of Boomer professionals said the same. But when it comes to millennials, the group seems to take more liberties at work, at least when football is involved. More than one-fifth (21.17%) have called in sick after Super Bowl celebrations and 8.64% were planning to take the day off this year. Still, no one is more keen to call out than Gen Z, according to the data. More than one in four Gen Z workers (27.45%) say they have called in sick after Super Bowl Sunday. And 12.42% admit that they’ve done so more than once. This year, only 6.54% said they were already planning to stay home in advance. However, 18.3% said their decision would come down to how the night goes, according to the TopResume data. We’re gonna go out on a limb and say there are a lot of people who are lowkey zonked today, working from the couch, or straight up not working. With all of the inevitable Hangover Monday absences happening today from coast to coast, the real question is really: why isn’t today a national holiday already? View the full article

  17. Amazon has unveiled its latest figures for Prime delivery, revealing a remarkable growth trajectory that could reshape how small businesses operate and connect with customers. In 2025, Amazon Prime members globally received over 13 billion items within a day—marking the fastest delivery speeds in the service’s history. This development underscores not only the logistical prowess of Amazon but also the increasing expectations consumers have regarding delivery times and convenience. U.S. Prime members reported an average savings of $550 on fast, free delivery within the year. With more than 8 billion items being delivered the same or next day—an increase of over 30% from the previous year—Amazon solidifies its position as a leader in immediate consumer gratification. Notably, groceries and everyday essentials comprised half of these rapid deliveries, emphasizing that customers are increasingly relying on these quick services for their staple purchases. “One of the big reasons customers join Prime is to save time and money, and our record-breaking delivery speeds are helping members save more of both,” stated Doug Herrington, CEO of Worldwide Amazon Stores. As small business owners, it’s vital to recognize the implications of this trend. The convenience provided by such speedy service means customers are less likely to visit local stores for everyday items. The change has profound practical implications. Small businesses can potentially leverage the growing consumer appetite for rapid delivery by creating partnerships with local delivery services or investing in their logistics. The current landscape suggests that consumers expect not just quality but also immediacy. As more products are offered for same-day delivery, small businesses could face increased pressure to enhance their delivery speeds or risk losing out to larger market players like Amazon. For small business owners considering how to adapt in this new environment, there are several strategies to explore. Investing in technology, such as artificial intelligence for inventory management and demand forecasting, can help position them competitively. Amazon is utilizing AI to optimize inventory placement, which allows for quicker deliveries. By analyzing local demand patterns, small businesses could better meet customer expectations through timely product availability. However, there are challenges worth considering. High operational costs and logistical complexities could hinder small businesses from matching Amazon’s delivery capabilities. The pressure to offer similar shipping speeds may lead to overspending or unsustainable business practices if not executed carefully. Therefore, it is essential to approach enhancements in logistics with a clear strategy—balancing customer expectations with financial viability. The expansion of same-day delivery services into rural areas is noteworthy for small business owners in those regions. Amazon transformed rural delivery stations into hybrid hubs to serve a broader community, significantly increasing access to everyday essentials. This move highlights a potential market opportunity for local businesses that can provide similar offerings. By catering specifically to the needs of these communities, small businesses may capture a loyal customer base that values local support and personalized service. In terms of consumer behavior, the convenience offered by Amazon’s extensive product range and expedited delivery may create a lasting shift. For instance, Prime members saved over 64 trips to physical stores in 2025, equating to more than 55 hours saved. This statistic indicates that consumers may increasingly favor online shopping for not just groceries but a diverse range of products. Thus, small businesses need to explore online sales platforms to create a presence where their offerings are easily accessible. As Amazon continues to innovate—adding features like same-day prescription deliveries and leveraging cutting-edge delivery technologies—small business owners should strategically assess how to differentiate themselves. If they capitalize on the shipping and convenience trends while maintaining their unique value propositions, they could still thrive in an environment dominated by larger players. Ultimately, the new delivery benchmarks set by Amazon pose both opportunities and challenges for small business owners. By understanding consumer expectations and investing wisely in logistics and technology, smaller enterprises can navigate this evolving landscape successfully. 19. My subscription fatigue is real, but at the end of the day, I do recognize that companies need to make money. If one of them manages to put together a compelling package of features for a reasonable price, I can decide whether or not I find that value worth the money. That's fine. What isn't fine is offering a feature for free for years, and then suddenly deciding to lock it behind a paywall. It seems YouTube didn't get that memo. Starting on Saturday, outlets like 9to5Google began reporting that YouTube Music had started to remove the ability to vie lyrics for free users. If you want a full lyrics experience, you'll need to subscribe to either YouTube Music Premium, or YouTube Premium (the latter includes Music Premium). The service hasn't cut these users off cold turkey. According to anecdotal user experiences, YouTube Music is opening lyrics access to free users for five songs per month. Once they play song number six, they'll only have access to the first two lines of each song, as the rest of the lyrics will be blurred out. These users will have to wait until the following month to view another five songs. There appears to be no confusion about why the lyrics are blurred out, either. When you switch to the "Lyrics" tab on YouTube Music as a free account, a new banner appears, telling you how many views you have remaining. Beneath this, you'll see the option to "Unlock lyrics with Premium," a clear message that, unless you pay up, you only get a limited number of lyrics views. This, apparently, follows a months-long period where YouTube Music tested lyrics as a Premium-only feature. For what it's worth, when I tried to see what the current lyrics situation looks like on my free YouTube Music app, the service gave me two weeks of Premium for free, with no option to skip it. That's, um, nice of YouTube, but since I already have an Apple Music subscription, the only real consequence here is that I can't test these new lyrics limitations out. Free music services that offer lyricsI don't see the strategy here. Lyrics aren't something I feel people would feel compelled to pay for specifically—but they might be annoyed enough at losing them to look elsewhere. Spotify, for example, offers a full lyrics experience for free users. It was only last week the company added offline lyric downloads for Premium users only, but, even then, that's adding a feature for the subscription tier—not taking away an existing feature from free users. It's not just Spotify, either. Other free music streaming services offers lyrics, as well, including Pandora, Amazon Music Free, and Freefy. These are largely radio services, so you may not have as much flexibility as you would have with YouTube Music free—but, hey, you at least have lyrics. Losing lyrics isn't the end of the world for free YouTube Music users, either. Just about any song's lyrics can be found on the internet. Sometimes, the lyrics show up in a Google search window without you needing to even click a link. Otherwise, sites like Genius and AZLyrics do exist. It's just a bummer YouTube feels the need to gatekeep the in-app experience. View the full article
  20. A reader writes: I’m a woman working in a male-dominated profession. I do most of the planning and organizing for company events—not by choice or job description, but because I’m told I’m such a good planner. While I’m planning something, I’m rarely offered help. However, right before the event, I’m often asked by male coworkers if they can do anything or if I need anything. “Are we all good for Thursday? Can I do anything?” Of course, it’s way too late for them to do anything, and they know that. Is this weaponized incompetence? Or what is it? Whatever it is, it’s incredibly annoying, and I’d love to come up with a comeback that shows I’m onto them. You’re focusing on the wrong problem. You don’t need a comeback for last-minute offers of help — you need to stop agreeing to do all the event planning when it’s not part of your job. For what it’s worth, it’s possible those offers of help aren’t deliberately insincere, but rather people haven’t thought about the event at all until right before it (because they don’t have to, because they know you are handling it). Then they see it on the calendar for the next day and figure it would be polite to ask if you need help. And if they never plan events themselves, they genuinely may not realize how ridiculous it is to wait until the last minute to make that offer. If there is weaponized incompetence here, it’s probably happening much earlier — when you’re somehow the only person capable of planning events because you’re so good at them. You will remain better at it than everyone else if no one else is ever expected to do it, and your colleagues are probably happy for that to remain the case. Regardless, you don’t need a comeback. You need to talk to your own boss and say that you don’t want all the event planning to continue falling to you and you want to focus on the parts of your job that you were hired to do (and which you’re presumably evaluated on when it your performance is assessed and raises are considered), just like your male coworkers get to do. And you should feel free to name the gender disparity — as in, “I’m concerned that this is falling to the one woman on the team, while male team members are free to stay focused on work that’s more advantageous to their careers.” You can also try just saying no the next time you’re asked to organize an event: “I don’t have room on my plate for that right now, but I’ve done quite a few this year. Could you check with Brian or Roger about this one?” If that doesn’t work, your back-up strategy should be to stop waiting for offers of help and instead announce what help you need and either assign pieces of the work to people or ask your boss to. But that still leaves you as the person ultimately responsible for making it all come together, so it’s far from ideal. 21. Eighty million people use Reddit search every week, Reddit said on its Q4 2025 earnings call last week. The increase followed a major change: Reddit merged its core search with its AI-powered Reddit Answers and began positioning the platform as a place where users can start — and finish — their searches. Executives framed the move as a response to changing behavior. People are increasingly researching products and making decisions by asking questions within communities rather than relying solely on traditional search engines. Reddit is betting it can keep more of that intent on-platform, rather than acting mainly as a source of links for elsewhere. Why we care. Reddit is becoming a place where people start — and complete — their searches without ever touching Google. For brands, that means visibility on Reddit now matters as much as ranking in traditional and AI search for many buying decisions. Reddit’s search ambitions. CEO Steve Huffman said Reddit made “significant progress” in Q4 by unifying keyword search with Reddit Answers, its AI-driven Q&A experience. Users can now move between standard search results and AI answers in a single interface, with Answers also appearing directly inside search results. “Reddit is already where people go to find things,” Huffman said, adding the company wants to become an “end-to-end search destination.” More than 80 million people searched Reddit weekly in Q4, up from 60 million a year earlier, as users increasingly come to the platform to research topics — not just scroll feeds or click through from Google. Reddit Answers is growing. Reddit Answers is driving much of that growth. Huffman said Answers queries jumped from about 1 million a year ago to 15 million in Q4, while overall search usage rose sharply in parallel. He said Answers performs best for open-ended questions—what to buy, watch, or try—where people want multiple perspectives instead of a single factual answer. Those queries align naturally with Reddit’s community-driven discussions. Reddit is also expanding Answers beyond text. Huffman said the company is piloting “dynamic agentic search results” that include media formats, signaling a more interactive and immersive search experience ahead. Search is a ‘big one’ for Reddit. Huffman said the company is testing new app layouts that give search prominent placement, including versions with a large, always-visible search bar at the top of the home screen. COO Jennifer Wong said search and Answers represent a major opportunity, even though monetization remains early on some surfaces. Wong described Reddit search behavior as “incremental and additive” to existing engagement and often tied to high-intent moments, such as researching purchases or comparing options. AI answers make Reddit more important. Huffman also linked Reddit’s search push to its partnerships with Google and OpenAI. He said Reddit content is now the most-cited source in AI-generated answers, highlighting the platform’s growing influence on how people find information. Reddit sees AI summaries as an opportunity — to move users from AI answers into Reddit communities, where they can read discussions, ask follow-up questions, and participate. If someone asks “what the best speaker is,” he said, Reddit wants users to discover not just a summary, but the community where real people are actively debating the topic. Reddit earnings. 24. It’s been a confusing time for people with student loans. Collections restarted, then were put on hold. At the same time, borrowers had to stay on top of changes to key forgiveness plans. Last year, the long-contested SAVE plan introduced by the Biden administration ended with a settlement agreement. President Donald The President’s “Big Beautiful Bill” introduced new borrowing limits for graduates and raised challenges to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness program. While several changes for student loan borrowers will take effect this summer, other key questions remain unresolved. More than 5 million Americans were in default on their federal student loans as of September, according to the Education Department. Millions are behind on loan payments and at risk of default this year. Borrowers “genuinely struggle to afford their loans and then to hear that the administration is making it more expensive and taking away some of the tools and resources that help folks afford their loans is really, it’s panic-inducing,” said Winston Berkman-Breen, legal director at Protect Borrowers. Last month, the Education Department announced that it would delay involuntary collections for student loan borrowers in default until the department finalizes its new loan repayment plans. The date for this is still unclear. If you’re a student loan borrower, here are some key things to know: If you were enrolled in the SAVE plan The SAVE plan was a repayment plan with some of the most lenient terms ever. Soon after its launch it was challenged in court, leaving millions of student loan borrowers in limbo. Last December, the Education Department announced a settlement agreement to end the SAVE plan. What is next for borrowers who were enrolled in this repayment plan is yet to be determined. “Seven and a half million borrowers who are currently enrolled in SAVE need to be moved to another plan,” Berkman-Breen said. As part of the agreement, the Education Department says it will not enroll new borrowers, deny pending applications, and will move all current SAVE borrowers into other repayment plans. The Education Department is expected to develop a plan for borrowers to transition from the SAVE plan, yet borrowers should be proactive about enrolling in other repayment plans, said Kate Wood, a lending expert at NerdWallet. If you are looking to enroll in an income-driven repayment plan Borrowers can apply for the following income-driven plans: the Income-Based Repayment Plan, the Pay as You Earn plan, and the Income-Contingent Repayment plan. “They all have similar criteria, and they function similarly. Your payment is set as a percentage of your income, not how much you owe, so it’s usually a lower payment,” Berkman-Breen said. The payment amount under income-driven plans is a percentage of your discretionary income, and the percentage varies depending on the plan. Since many people are looking to switch plans, some applications to income-driven repayment plans might take longer to process, said Jill Desjean, director of policy analysis at the National Association of Student Financial Aid Administrators. You can find out which repayment plan might work best for you by logging on to the Education Department’s loan simulator. If you’re working toward your Public Service Loan Forgiveness There are no changes to the Public Service Loan Forgiveness Program yet. Last year, the The President administration announced plans to change the eligibility requirements for participating nonprofits. The policy seeks to disqualify nonprofit workers if their work is deemed to have “substantial illegal purpose.” The The President administration said it’s necessary to block taxpayer money from lawbreakers, while critics say it turns the program into a tool of political retribution. The proposal says illegal activity includes the trafficking or “chemical castration” of children, illegal immigration, and supporting foreign terrorist organizations. This move could cut off some teachers, doctors, and other public workers from federal loan cancellation. “This is something that obviously is very stressful, very nerve-wracking for a lot of people, but given that we don’t know exactly how this is going to be enforced, how these terms are going to be defined, it’s not really something that you can try to plan ahead for now,” Wood said. While this policy is currently being challenged by 20 Democrat-led states, it’s expected to take effect in July. In the meantime, Wood recommends that borrowers enrolled in the PSLF program continue making payments. If your student loans are in default Involuntary collections on federal student loans will remain on hold. The The President administration announced earlier this month that it is delaying plans to withhold pay from student loan borrowers who default on their payments. Federal student loan borrowers can have their wages garnished and their federal tax refunds withheld if they default on their loans. Borrowers are considered in default when they are at least 270 days behind on payments. If your student loans are in default, you can contact your loan holder to apply for a loan rehabilitation program. “They essentially come up with a payment plan where you’re making a reduced payment,” Woods. “After five successful payments on that rehabilitation plan, wage garnishment will cease.” If you’re planning to attend graduate school The President’s “ Big Beautiful Bill ” has changed the amount graduate students can borrow from federal student loans. Graduate students could previously borrow loans up to the cost of their degree; the new rules cap the amount depending on whether the degree is considered a graduate or a professional program. Wood said that if you’re starting a new program and taking out a loan after July 1, you will be subject to the new loan limits. Under the new plan, students in professional programs would be able to borrow up to $50,000 per year and up to $200,000 in total. Other graduate students, such as those pursuing nursing and physical therapy, would be limited to $20,500 a year and up to $100,000 total. The Education Department is defining the following fields as professional programs: pharmacy, dentistry, veterinary medicine, chiropractic, law, medicine, optometry, osteopathic medicine, podiatry and theology. If you want to consolidate your loan The online application for loan consolidation is available at studentaid.gov/loan-consolidation. If you have multiple federal student loans, you can combine them into a single loan with a fixed interest rate and a single monthly payment. The consolidation process typically takes around 60 days to complete. You can only consolidate your loans once. ___ The Associated Press receives support from Charles Schwab Foundation for educational and explanatory reporting to improve financial literacy. 25. OpenAI is rolling out its first live test of ads in ChatGPT, placing sponsored messages directly inside the app for some users. The details. According to CNBC, the ads will appear in a clearly labeled section beneath the chat interface rather than inside responses. The format is designed to keep ads visually separate from ChatGPT’s answers. OpenAI will show ads to logged-in users on the free tier and its lower-cost Go subscription. The company says advertisers won’t see users’ conversations and won’t influence ChatGPT’s responses, though ads will be optimized based on what OpenAI considers helpful to the user. What else is coming. In an internal memo cited by CNBC, CEO Sam Altman told employees an updated chat model is expected this week. He also said ChatGPT is again exceeding 10% monthly growth. OpenAI last reported 800 million weekly users in October. Why we care. ChatGPT is one of the largest consumer AI platforms in the world. Even a limited ad rollout could signal a major shift in how conversational AI gets monetized — and how brands reach users. The bigger picture. As AI platforms scale, monetization strategies are moving closer to traditional digital advertising — but with new questions around placement, privacy, and user trust. Bottom line. OpenAI is officially entering the ad business inside ChatGPT, testing how sponsored content can coexist with conversational AI at massive scale. Dig Deeper. OpenAI will reportedly start testing ads in ChatGPT today (subscription needed) View the full article
  26. When I asked real people why they post their workouts online, I received well over a hundred replies, many of them filled with venting about body image issues and unattainable beauty standards. That's didn't surprise me. What did surprise me was that the majority of these responses came from men. Carefully measured chicken and rice, obsessive tracking of macros, the guilt when a workout is missed: On social media, these behaviors are framed in the language of performance and strength. The same rituals that would be clear indications of disordered behavior for women are redefined as “discipline” and “optimization” for men. How many men suffer in silence because eating disorders are coded as a women's issue? How many cases go unrecognized when they're framed as "clean eating" or "serious training"? When eating disorders and body dysmorphia get rebranded as "fitness goals," a lot of men are left struggling in plain sight. Men can have eating disorders, tooBoys and men now make up about a third of those diagnosed with eating disorders, and that figure likely understates the crisis. In particular, muscle dysmorphia—sometimes called "bigorexia"—is characterized by excessive and compulsive exercise, a persistent belief that one is insufficiently muscular, and an obsession with muscle mass, size, and leanness. Unfortunately, much of fitness culture allows men to engage in disordered behaviors by wrapping them in performance language. "Bulking" and "shredding" cycles can mask seriously problematic eating patterns. Without giving certain men in my life an armchair diagnosis, I can confidently say I’ve seen the mental fallout when someone’s extreme caloric restriction becomes "cutting" or compulsive exercise becomes "staying on track." Unsurprisingly, social media amplifies these harmful messages. Mason Boudrye, who describes himself as "someone known to post gratuitous thirst traps," shared with me the mental fallout of always trying to look a certain way. “Even if people don't admit that the obsessive tracking and strict adherence to diet qualifies as disordered eating, I know it’s true for me,” he says. The social media of it all makes these feelings even more public and persistent. We all scroll through feeds of chemically enhanced physiques presented as natural and achievable. This naturally breeds more self-scrutiny, more comparison, more perceived inadequacy. Matthew Singer, a yoga teacher, says most “fitspo” (fitness inspiration) “is as helpful for fitness as previous winning lottery numbers are for winning millions. Fitspo cannot take into account genetics, job and family circumstances, health history, or any of the other countless factors that influence health outcomes." Our bodies are treated like projects always in need of correction, devoid of much-needed context. What’s most troubling to me is the way men don’t get to call out disordered behaviors by name. There is both a misconception around who eating disorders affect, and a deep reluctance among affected men to seek help for a problem they've been socialized to handle alone. Society has constructed a masculine ideal that equates vulnerability with weakness, making it nearly impossible for some men to admit they're struggling with their relationship to food and their bodies. Unattainable beauty standards stay unattainableBotox injections in men may get called “Brotox," but a cheeky nickname shouldn't shroud the fact that unattainable beauty standards are leading men to take more extreme measures. Dr. Claudia Kim of New Look New Life Cosmetic Surgery says she's seen a rise in men turning to beauty treatments: jawline contouring, under-eye correction, hair restoration, skin rejuvenation. “These approaches offer noticeable yet discreet results with little downtime,” says Kim, fitting neatly into lives that were never supposed to include these concerns. What's telling, Kim adds, is that her male patients are usually entering the aesthetic realm for the first time. In this sense, men are catching up to beauty regimens women have been undertaking for generations, and slowly learning what women have long understood: Namely, that appearance affects professional success, social capital, and romantic prospects—and the goalposts are always moving. At the same time, the masculine ideal demands stoic self-sufficiency, even as it requires costly and constant aesthetic labor. What does all this mean for the average person with an average budget? The treatments Kim describes—jawline contouring, hair restoration, aesthetic procedures—aren't cheap. Nor are supplements, meal prep services, personal trainers, specialized equipment, and so on. Beauty standards increasingly require you to spend more money, meaning your appearance is yet another health arena where class determines outcomes. And if they can’t afford to look the way they feel pressured to look, men are uniquely left behind to suffer in silence. As a woman, I’ve spent most of my life jealous of how men were allowed to age, or gain weight, or simply be in their bodies without constant intervention. Now I have a more sympathetic gaze, especially after hearing so many men admit they were never given the language to articulate aesthetic concerns without shame. The bottom lineThere’s a big difference between healthy self-care and the sense that your body is never good enough. Meticulously tracking every calorie, every rep, every perceived flaw—why should one woman’s obvious eating disorder be another man’s enviable achievement? Women have been battling body image issues and unattainable beauty standards since birth, but a lot of men were never taught how to fight this particular war. To me, the takeaway is that we all need to be on the same side. To fight this war, we need a more honest conversation about what we're doing to men's relationships with their bodies. Until we acknowledge that, all this talk of "cutting" and "discipline" will allow dangerous behaviors to keep hiding in plain sight. View the full article
