How to Easily Find FSA Eligible Items on Amazon
Your flexible spending account (FSA) funds expire soon, and if you don't use them, you lose them. In fact, roughly half of FSA holders in recent years have ended up forfeiting funds to their employers, according to the nonprofit Employee Benefit Research Institute (EBRI). First, make sure to double-check with your employer about your FSA's Dec. 31 deadline, along with any potential rollover or grace period. After that, it's time to scan your medicine cabinet, make a list of anything you need to stock up on, and click "add to cart." The FSA store is an obvious choice for making the most of your remaining funds, but you can also turn to your go-to retail giants. Amazon, Target, Walgreens, and more all offer a dedicated FSA/HSA Shop to help you find eligible items quickly. How to shop FSA-eligible items on AmazonHere's how you can take advantage of Amazon's FSA-eligible items before the end of the year. 1. Visit Amazon's FSA Store at amazon.com/fsa 2. Look for the "FSA/HSA Eligible" label on product listings 3. Use the FSA/HSA filter in search results 4. Pay with your FSA debit card at checkout Similarly, Target has an FSA filter in their healthcare section, and pharmacies like CVS and Walgreens have dedicated online FSA shops. What to buy with your remaining FSA fundsMany over-the-counter medications and health items are FSA-eligible, including pain relievers, cold medicine, bandages, dental care products, menstrual products, and more. But did you realize you can also snag these kinds of goodies: First aid supplies Contact lenses and solutions Reading glasses Fancy sunscreen Blood pressure monitors Epsom salt Massage guns Pimple patches An Oura ring A WHOOP band A $229.99 water dental flosser Again, most FSA plans require you to spend funds by Dec. 31, though some offer grace periods. Check with your plan administrator for specific deadlines. Just make sure to save receipts for all FSA purchases in case you need to verify eligibility with your plan administrator after paying. However you choose to spend your FSA funds, don’t let that money go to waste. After all, this money already came out of your paycheck. View the full article

Dick Van Dyke turns 100: The iconic actor shares these longevity tips as he celebrates a milestone birthday
Humans are a unique species, because of our collective knowledge of our own mortality. According to the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC), the average life expectancy for males in the United States is 75.8 years. That means entertainer extraordinaire Dick Van Dyke is defying statistics by turning 100 years old this Saturday, December 13. As he reaches this milestone birthday, let’s take a look back at his impressive career, what he credits his longevity to, and how he plans to celebrate. We’ll also cover how you can get in on the action and celebrate the Mary Poppins actor. A brief Dick Van Dyke biography Richard Wayne Van Dyke was born in West Plains, Missouri on December 13, 1925. He was raised in Danville, Illinois. At one time, he considered being a minister because of his mother’s religious influences, but a high school drama class would ignite a love of entertainment. During his senior year of high school, Van Dyke enlisted in the Army to help the war efforts during World War II. He first served as a radio operator, before being transferred to Special Services to entertain the troops. After his army days, Van Dyke worked as a radio DJ. He hit the road touring the United States as part of comedy duo “The Merry Mutes” in 1947. Broadway first called in 1959, for the production The Girls Against the Boys, although Van Dyke is better known for his following role, of Albert Peterson in Bye Bye Birdie. Many don’t know Van Dyke also once anchored a CBS morning show with Walter Cronkite. But the CBS sitcom The Dick Van Dyke Show would make him a household name, and 1964’s classic film Mary Poppins would endear him to fans for years to come. (Who would forget that authentic cockney accent?) Longevity is a word that describes not only Van Dyke’s life, but also his career. Thirty years after his first hit show, he did it again in 1993, with Diagnosis Murder. Throughout his impressive career, he has been awarded six Emmy Awards, a Grammy Award, and a Tony Award. He has received a lifetime achievement award from SAG, and was declared a Disney Legend. Beyond the stage, screen, or airwaves, Van Dyke is a father of four, with several grandchildren and great-grandchildren. Dick Van Dyke’s tips for a long life Van Dyke is also an author, and he’s literally written the book on a long-lasting life: 100 Rules for Living to 100: An Optimist’s Guide to a Happy Life was published in November of this year. If you haven’t gotten around to reading it yet, never fear. The Chitty Chitty Bang Bang actor summarized some of the tips in an interview with the New York Times. He credits his long life to exercise. He moves his body in some way every day, and hits the gym at least three times a week. Van Dyke also values connection with others and playfulness. There’s a sense of whimsy about how he views the world. He also isn’t afraid to try new things such as directing a children’s theatre production, which could help keep him young. How Dick Van Dyke plans to celebrate Van Dyke doesn’t want a lavish party on his actual birthday. His wife Arlene Silver told People how he wants to spend his big day, and it’s surprisingly simple. “He doesn’t want to do anything,” she explained. “He wants to be in his room watching Jeopardy! reruns with me.” This is not to say that Van Dyke has not been properly celebrated. The city of Malibu, where he resides, is hosting a whole festival for the man, called “Vandy Days.” From November 28 through December 14, the schedule is packed full of screenings, themed events, and costume contests. How you can celebrate Dick Van Dyke If geography doesn’t allow you to attend Vandy Days, there are several ways you can get in on the action. Fathom Events is hosting special screenings of the new documentary film Dick Van Dyke 100th Celebration on December 13 and 14. The Catchy Comedy Network is doing a marathon of The Dick Van Dyke Show, playing 100 episodes to mark the occasion. And a new special, Starring Dick Van Dyke, will air on PBS as a part of the “American Masters” programming on Friday, December 12 at 9 p.m. It will also be available to stream on pbs.org/americanmasters and the PBS App. If all else fails, you can also do your own screening or marathon at home. Throw on Mary Poppins, and watch your cares melt away. After all, it’s supercalifragilisticexpialidocious! View the full article

Arkansas drops PBS, citing costs and loss of federal funding
The fallout from the The President administration’s dramatic cuts to American public media is only just beginning. The governing group that oversees public educational TV in Arkansas voted on Thursday to split with PBS, the national public broadcast network best known for Sesame Street. The network formerly known as Arkansas PBS will rebrand as Arkansas TV, making it the first state public broadcast network to part with the national network synonymous with public access TV. The state network will officially sever its ties to PBS on July 1, 2026, at the beginning of Arkansas’ next fiscal year. Its commission framed the decision as a cost saving measure, citing a loss of the federal funds it relies on to pay annual dues of around $2.5 million to access PBS programming. The organization’s commissioners, who voted six to two in favor of splitting from PBS, are appointed by the governor. The Arkansas network, which has already rebranded its website as ArkansasTV, says it is developing a new lineup of shows, including two shows for children, two food shows and two new series focused on history. “Public television in Arkansas is not going away,” ArkansasTV Executive Director and CEO Carlton Wing said in the announcement. “In fact, we invite you to join our vision for an increased focus on local programming, continuing to safeguard Arkansans in times of emergency and supporting our K-12 educators and students.” ArkansasTV paints an optimistic picture, but the state’s residents broadly support PBS according to recent surveying from YouGov. In a statement to Fast Company, PBS noted that 70% of Arkansas residents believe that PBS brings an “excellent value” to their community. “The commission’s decision to drop PBS membership is a blow to Arkansans who will lose free, over the air access to quality PBS programming they know and love,” a PBS spokesperson said. “It also goes against the will of Arkansas viewers.” Decades of public media undone The decision to go it alone comes as the The President administration targets public broadcasting with deep funding cuts, part of an aggressive campaign to defund agencies and initiatives it views as politically opposed to its priorities. Those cuts slashed $500 million in yearly funding from the Corporation for Public Broadcasting, a private nonprofit authorized by Congress in 1967 to manage funds for public media. In light of a shortage of federal funding, the organization announced in August that it planned to end operations and shut its doors. “Public media has been one of the most trusted institutions in American life, providing educational opportunity, emergency alerts, civil discourse, and cultural connection to every corner of the country,” CPB President and CEO Patricia Harrison said at the time. The nonprofit historically doles out funds to PBS, NPR, and more than 1,000 local TV and radio stations. Sesame Street and Mister Rogers’ Neighborhood, two iconic public TV shows, were both made possible with funding from the CPB. On Truth Social, President The President called PBS and NPR “two horrible and completely biased platforms,” urging Congress to defund what he characterized as a scam perpetrated by “the Radical Left.” The cascade of effects from the CPB’s collapse will continue, but they aren’t the only threat to public broadcasting under the second The President administration. This week, the conservative nonprofit law firm the Center for American Rights called on the FCC to revoke PBS and NPR’s broadcast licenses. The President himself has also suggested revoking broadcast licenses as a political weapon, declaring that ABC affiliates should have theirs “taken away” after an ABC News reporter asked a question about Jeffrey Epstein in an Oval Office event last month. Doctor: Google’s AI Overview made up career-damaging claims about me
UK doctor and YouTuber Dr. Ed Hope said Google’s AI falsely claimed he was suspended by the General Medical Council earlier this year for selling sick notes. Hope called the allegation completely made up and warned that it could seriously damage his career. Google’s AI generated a detailed narrative accusing Hope of professional misconduct, despite no investigations, complaints, or sanctions in his 10-year medical career, he said in a new video. Why we care. Google’s AI-generated answers appear to now be presenting false, career-damaging claims about real people as fact. That raises serious questions about defamation, accountability, and whether AI-generated statements fall outside Section 230 protections. What Google’s AI said: Hope shared screenshots of Google’s AI stating that he: Was suspended by the medical council in mid-2025. Profited from selling sick notes. Exploited patients for personal gain. Faced professional discipline following online fame. ‘None of this is true.’ Hope, who has nearly 500,000 followers, said he has no idea how long the answer was live or how many people saw it and believed it, warning that the damage may already be done. After discovering the AI Overview, he replicated the hallucination and found more false claims, including accusations that he misled insurers and stole content. “This is just about the most serious allegation you can get as a doctor. You basically aren’t fit to practice medicine,” he said. How did this happen? Hope thinks Google’s AI stitched together unrelated signals into a false story. The AI conflated identities and events, then presented the result as factual history, he said: He hadn’t posted on YouTube in months His channel is called “Sick Notes” Another doctor, Dr. Asif Munaf, was involved in a real sick-note scandal Why this is more from “just a mistake.” The AI didn’t hedge, speculate, or ask questions, Hope said. It asserted false claims as settled fact. Hope said that matters because: AI answers are framed as authoritative. Users can’t see sources, bias, or motivation. There’s no clear path for correction or accountability. The claims targeted a private individual, not a public controversy. The big legal question. Is Google’s AI committing defamation? Or is Google protected by Section 230, which typically shields platforms from liability for third-party content? Courts may ultimately decide. For now, some legal experts have argued that: AI-generated outputs are not third-party speech The model is creating and publishing new statements False claims presented as fact may qualify as defamation Resolved? Searching for [what happened to dr. ed hope sick notes] showed this Google AI Overview: Dr. Ed Hope (of the “Dr. Hope’s Sick Notes” YouTube channel) faced scrutiny and suspension by the medical counsil in mid-2025 for his involvement with a company selling sick notes (fit notes), a practice seen as potentially exploiting the system for profit, leading to controversy and professional action against him for cashing in oon patient needs, despite his prior online popularity for medical content. What happened: Suspension: In June 2025, Dr. Ed Hope was suspended by the medical council (likely the GMC in the UK). Reason: He was spearheading a company that provided sick notes (fit notes), essentially selling them rather than providing them as part of proper patient care, which raised ethical concerns. Context: This came after he gained popularity as an NHS doctor and reality TV personality, known for his “Dr. Hope’s Sick Notes” channel where he’d break down medical scenes in media. The Controversy: Criticals argued that he was profiting from people’s health issues by faciliting quick, potentially unwarranted, sick notes, undermining the healthcare system. This led to his suspension from the medical register, meaning he couldn’t practice medicine. In essence, Dr. Ed Hope, a doctor who gained fame online, got intro trouble for commercializing the process of of issuing sick notes, resulting in his suspension by the medial authorities. Searching for [what happened to dr. ed hope sick notes] now shows a different answer (at least for me): “Dr. Ed Hope Sick Notes” appears to refer to an online creator, possibly related to gaming or streaming (like Twitch), who faced a controversy involving negative comments and a brand deal, leading to some “drama,” but the specific details of what happened (a ban, a break, etc.) aren’t fully clear from the search snippets, though a YouTube video suggests a reconciliation or a resolution after the “drama”. The name also sounds like it could relate to the medical soap opera Doctors, but that show was canceled in 2024, not by an “Ed Hope” character. Here’s a breakdown of possibilities: Online Creator: A YouTube video titled “Making Up With Dr. Ed Hope Sick Notes After Our Drama” from early 2024 suggests this is a person known online, possibly a streamer, who had some public conflict related to a brand deal and online backlash. Fictional Character: While it sounds like a character name, the major medical drama Doctors ended, so it’s likely not a current, major plotline from that show, notes Deadline. To find out exactly what happened, you might need to search for “Dr. Ed Hope Sick Notes drama” or look for their social media (Twitch, YouTube) to see recent posts. The video. “SUSPENDED” as a DOCTOR – Thanks Google! View the full article

Google Ads quietly unlocks Merchant Center videos for Performance Max
Google is rolling out a new Performance Max beta that lets advertisers pull video assets directly from Merchant Center — a small tweak with big implications for retail and e-commerce. How it works. Google Ads will now: Auto-surface product-associated videos from Merchant Center during PMax setup Shorten creative workflows for retailers and e-commerce teams Improve product-to-creative alignment, increasing ad relevance Boost performance, especially for large SKU catalogs Why we care. This update removes a friction point in PMax: getting high-quality, product-relevant video into campaigns. By auto-pulling videos from Merchant Center, Google is tightening the link between inventory and creative, which typically translates to higher relevance, stronger engagement, and better performance. For brands with large SKU counts, this dramatically speeds up workflow and ensures video coverage at scale — something that was previously difficult and resource-heavy to achieve. The big picture. Google has been rapidly expanding PMax’s creative pipeline — from social video imports to this new Merchant Center integration — signaling a broader push to make PMax more plug-and-play for commerce-heavy advertisers. First seen. This update was first spotted by senior performance marketing executive, Rakshit Shetty who shared his view of the option on LinkedIn. The bottom line. A subtle update, but a meaningful win for brands running eCommerce at scale. View the full article

High prices are souring the holiday cheer for most consumers, AP-NORC poll finds
This holiday season isn’t quite so merry for American shoppers as large shares are dipping into savings, scouring for bargains, and feeling like the overall economy is stuck in a rut under President Donald The President, a new AP-NORC poll finds. The vast majority of U.S. adults say they’ve noticed higher than usual prices for groceries, electricity, and holiday gifts in recent months, according to the survey from The Associated Press-NORC Center for Public Affairs Research. Roughly half of Americans say it’s harder than usual to afford the things they want to give as holiday gifts, and similar numbers are delaying big purchases or cutting back on nonessential purchases more than they would normally. It’s a sobering assessment for the Republican president, who returned to the White House in large part by promising to lower prices, only to find that inflation remains a threat to his popularity just as it did for Democrat Joe Biden’s presidency. The poll’s findings look very similar to an AP-NORC poll from December 2022, when Biden was president and the country was grappling with higher rates of inflation. The President’s series of tariffs have added to inflationary pressures and generated anxiety about the stability of the U.S. economy, keeping prices at levels that many Americans find frustrating. The president has insisted there is “no” inflation and the U.S. economy is booming, as he expressed frustration that the public feels differently. “When will people understand what is happening?” The President said Thursday on Truth Social. “When will Polls reflect the Greatness of America at this point in time, and how bad it was just one year ago?” Most U.S. adults, 68%, continue to say the country’s economy is “poor,” which is unchanged from December 2024, before The President returned to the presidency. Americans are feeling strained as they continue to see high prices White House officials plan to send The President barnstorming across the country in hopes of bucking up people’s faith in the economy before next year’s midterm elections. But the president this week in Pennsylvania defended the price increases tied to his tariffs by suggesting that Americans should buy fewer dolls and pencils for children. His message is a jarring contrast with what respondents expressed in the poll, even among people who backed him in the 2024 election. Sergio Ruiz, 44, of Tucson, Arizona, said he is using more buy now, pay later programs to spread out over time the expense of gifts for his children. He doesn’t put a huge emphasis on politics, but he voted for The President last year and would like to see lower interest rates to help boost his real estate business. He believes that more Americans having higher incomes would help to manage any affordability issues. “Prices are up. What can you do? You need to make more money,” Ruiz said. The poll found that when they do shop, about half of Americans are finding the lowest price more than they would normally. About 4 in 10 are dipping into their savings more than at other times. Democrats are more likely than Republicans to say they’re cutting back on expenses or looking for low prices, but many Republicans are budgeting more than usual as well. About 4 in 10 Republicans are looking for low prices more than they usually would, while a similar share are shopping for nonessential items less than usual. Views are largely similar to when Biden was president People felt similarly dismal about holiday shopping and the economy when Biden was president in 2022. Inflation had spiked to a four-decade high that summer. Three years later, inflation has eased substantially, but it’s still running at 3%, a full percentage point above the Federal Reserve’s target as the job market appears to have entered a deep freeze. The survey indicates that it’s the level of prices — and not just the rate of inflation — that is the point of pain for many families. Roughly 9 in 10 U.S. adults, 87%, say they’ve noticed higher than usual prices for groceries in the past few months, while about two-thirds say they’ve experienced higher prices than usual for electricity and holiday gifts. About half say they’ve seen higher than normal prices for gas recently. The findings on groceries and holiday gifts are only slightly lower than in the 2022 poll, despite the slowdown from an inflation rate that hit a four-decade peak in the middle of that year. Consumer spending has stayed resilient despite the negative sentiments about the economy, yet The President’s tariffs have caused changes for shoppers such as Andrew Russell. The 33-year-old adjunct professor in Arlington Heights, Illinois, said he used to shop for unique gifts from around the globe and buy online. But with the tariffs, he got his gifts locally and “this year, I only bought things that I can pick up in person,” he said. Russell, who voted Democratic in last year’s election, said he worries about the economy for next year. He thinks the investment in artificial intelligence has become a bubble that could burst, taking down the stock market. Little optimism about an economic rebound in 2026 Few people expect the situation to meaningfully improve next year — a sign that The President has done little to instill much confidence from his mix of tariffs, income tax cuts and foreign trips to attract investments. The President has maintained that the benefits from his policies will begin to snowball in 2026. About 4 in 10 U.S. adults expect next year will be economically worse for the country. Roughly 3 in 10 say conditions won’t change much. Only about 2 in 10 think things will get better, with Republicans being more optimistic. The belief that things will get better has slipped from last year, when about 4 in 10 said that 2025 would be better than 2024. Millicent Simpson, 56, of Cleveland, Ohio, said she expects the economy to be worse for people like her who rely on Medicaid for health care and the Supplemental Nutrition Assistance Program. Simpson voted Democratic last year and blames The President for the greater economic pressures that she faces going into the winter. “He’s making it rough for us,” she said. “He’s messing with the government assistance for everybody, young and old.” ___ The AP-NORC poll of 1,146 adults was conducted Dec. 4-8 using a sample drawn from NORC’s probability-based AmeriSpeak Panel, which is designed to be representative of the U.S. population. The margin of sampling error for adults overall is plus or minus 4 percentage points. —Josh Boak and Amelia Thomson-Deveaux, Associated Press View the full article

Ambitious goals drive innovation and growth. Premji encourages thinking big, reminding leaders that bold objectives inspire creativity and push boundaries. 23. “I owe my success to having listened respectfully to the very best advice, and then going away and doing the exact opposite.” – G.K. Chesterton Chesterton, a writer of paradoxical stories, is the contrarian on our list. He speaks for the pig-headed and visionary alike. Sometimes one must buck the conventional wisdom. The hard part is knowing whether you’re acting out of conviction for your ideals or if you’re just being deluded by ego. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/GK-Chersterton-business-quote-600x600.png 24. “Risk comes from not knowing what you’re doing.” – Warren Buffet In business, risk is inevitable, but mismanaged risk is preventable. Warren Buffett reminds us that preparation, research, and knowledge reduce uncertainty. Leaders who understand their markets, processes and data can make calculated decisions rather than leaving outcomes to chance. Awareness and planning turn risk into opportunity. 25. “I don’t know the word ‘quit.’ Either I never did, or I have abolished it.” – Susan Butcher She’s not being literal, but rather exaggerating to make a point in this inspirational business quote. There comes a time in everyone’s life when the idea of just throwing in the towel is attractive. You’re exhausted. The obstacles feel insurmountable. But those who can reject the idea of quitting and tap an unforeseen reservoir are usually those who cross the finish line. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Susan-Butcher-business-quote-600x600.png 26. “What do you need to start a business? Know your product, know your customer, and have a burning desire to succeed.” – Dave Thomas This inspirational business quote emphasizes practical readiness and inner drive. Success rarely happens by accident; it comes from understanding your value, knowing who you serve, and fueling every effort with passion and focus. 27. “Far and away the best prize that life offers is the chance to work hard at work worth doing.” – Theodore Roosevelt People get caught up in the product and forget the worth of anything that lies in the process. Win or lose, it’s the fact that you tried, with all you could offer, to do the best at something you feel is of value. That alone is rewarding. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Theodore-Roosevelt-business-quote-600x600.png 28. “If you really look closely, most overnight successes took a long time.” – Steve Jobs We only see the success after it’s been reached. Like a tree that reaches the clouds, the roots that hold it up are invisible. They’re beneath the ground, having spent years digging through the hard ground to stabilize and feed the tree’s growth. It is also so with business. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Steve-Jobs-business-quote-600x600.png 29. “Almost everything worthwhile carries with it some sort of risk, whether it’s starting a new business, whether it’s leaving home, whether it’s getting married, or whether it’s flying into space.” – Chris Hadfield True, but not all risks are created equally. Going into space feels like a bigger risk than starting a company. That puts things in perspective, though, and acknowledges the fact that nothing is without risk, therefore, don’t try to completely bubble-wrap your enterprise. Play it safe, of course, but not to the point of inertia. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Chris-Hadfield-business-quote-600x600.png 30. “The secret of getting ahead is getting started.” – Mark Twain Twain’s timeless inspirational business quote cuts through hesitation. For leaders and teams holding big ideas, the first step, no matter how small, triggers progress and builds confidence that leads to bigger results. 31. “Even if you are on the right track, you’ll get run over if you just sit there.” – Will Rodgers America’s ambassador of good cheer did more than pass out smiles in his life. He offered practical business advice: complacency is death. Even if you’re doing the right thing, if you’re not moving forward, constantly pushing yourself to reach beyond your comfort zone, then you’re in trouble. The competition will overtake you. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Will-Rodgers-business-quote-600x600.png 32.”Every problem is a gift – without problems, we would not grow.” – Anonymous This inspirational business quote flips the narrative on challenges, encouraging leaders to see difficulty as an opportunity. Instead of avoiding obstacles, effective teams analyze them, learn from them and adapt strategies to strengthen their plan. 33. “The real test is not whether you avoid this failure, because you won’t. It’s whether you let it harden or shame you into inaction, or whether you learn from it; whether you choose to persevere.” – Barack Obama The president knows a lot about failure and success. The Affordable Healthcare Act was more than once dead in the water, but the president didn’t give up. He compromised, he convinced and he labored, but not once did he allow himself to become embittered. Forget everything except what you’re going to do now and do it.” – William Durant There is only the present, so the enlightened ones tell us, and we cannot allow ourselves to become tied to the past or enchanted by the future. There is only the here and now. We must concentrate on that and act. This quote doesn’t reject the lessons of the past or the plans for the future, but we only have this moment, so do your best in it. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/William-Durant-business-quote-600x600.png 35. “Imagination is everything. It is the preview of life’s coming attractions.” – Albert Einstein You’ll have noticed that often one inspirational business quote contradicts the next. That’s because it is in these paradoxes that real wisdom is born. There is never just one way to look at something and with perspective comes opportunity. Ideas might be nothing without execution, but without those ideas the execution is empty. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Albert-Einstein-business-quote-600x600.png 36. “Our greatest glory is not in never failing, but in rising every time we fail.” – Confucius This quote reinforces that persistence defines long-term success. Every setback teaches lessons, and teams that rise with purpose after failure build resilience, confidence and a culture that sustains performance under pressure. 37. “Character cannot be developed in ease and quiet. Only through experience of trial and suffering can the soul be strengthened, ambition inspired and success achieved.” – Helen Keller People should take failure as a badge of honor. It’s a crucible that burns things down to their essence and shows us what we’re really made from. If the path to success was clear, then everyone would be on it and success would lose all meaning. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Helen-Keller-business-quote-600x600.png 38. “The first one gets the oyster, the second gets the shell.” – Andrew Carnegie It sounds brutal, and one doesn’t become a steel baron without nerves of steel, but there is a harsh truth in this statement. Resources are exploited by businesses to achieve their goals. They’re not a collective, sharing the wealth, so like the early bird, if you want the worm, then get up early. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Andrew-Carnegie-business-quote-600x600.png 39. “The way to get started is to quit talking and begin doing.” – Walt Disney The more business motivational quotes from these masters of industry and history, the more you notice a common thread knitting them together. They tend to same things only in different ways. That alone should make it clear that actions speak louder than words, to use another old axiom. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Walt-Disney-business-quote-600x600.png 40. “Whether you think you can or whether you think you can’t, you’re right!” – Henry Ford This statement might confuse you at first, but once you get it, like a Zen koan, it makes perfect sense. What the father of automotive automation is imparting with this quote is that success is as much a mind game as it is determined by fate. With the right attitude, you can do almost anything. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Henry-Ford-business-quote-600x600.png Business Motivational Quotes Business success isn’t built overnight. These quotes can give you the extra motivation you need to keep going. 41. “There are no secrets to success. It is the result of preparation, hard work and learning from failure.” – Colin Powell Inspiration is great, but there’s no point in reinventing the wheel, as this business motivational quote suggests. The general is right. Success is being prepared, working hard and learning from mistakes, as many others have also stated. If we can edit the quote a wee bit, we’d add luck to fill out the recipe for success. There’s always an unknown element in the mix. If you love what you are doing, you will be successful.” – Albert Schweitzer Many people have it backward, struggling to achieve success to feel good about themselves. But the irony is that it’s in the doing, not the goal, where the happiness resides. Even if you fail at your enterprise, if you enjoy the process, then you’ll be happy. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Albert-Schweitzer-business-quote-600x600.png 43. “Success is often achieved by those who don’t know that failure is inevitable.” – Coco Chanel If you’re keeping your eyes on what can go wrong, it will go wrong. Successful people strive to move on. They aren’t ignorant of failure, but they’re also not stymied by it. They don’t know what failure is, because to them it’s merely a bump in the road, not its terminus. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Cocoo-Chanel-business-quote-600x600.png 44. “Show me a guy who’s afraid to look bad, and I’ll show you a guy you can beat every time.” – Lou Brock One of the most famous business motivational quotes teaches the value of courage and risk-taking. Inspirational business quotes like this encourage teams to embrace challenges, learn from mistakes and take bold steps toward success. 45. “Many of life’s failures are people who did not realize how close they were to success when they gave up.” – Thomas Edison The famous story about Edison and the incandescent lightbulb, which took thousands of tries to find a filament that would burn but not extinguish, is proof of the pudding of his statement. You just never know what’s around the corner until you get there. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Thomas-Edison-business-quote-600x600.png 46. “I feel that luck is preparation meeting opportunity.” – Oprah Winfrey We spoke of luck as a crucial element to any success. There are always those forces beyond our control, but there are also those forces that are within our ability to regulate. If opportunities are rare, then one must be ready for them when they come to take advantage. That might not be the definition of luck, but it does feel like good fortune. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Oprah-Winfrey-business-quote-600x600.png 47. “I never dreamed about success. I worked for it.” – Estée Lauder People can get lost in thought. In their mind’s eye success is laid out. It’s as if they’re already there. Daydreaming might be creative, but creativity takes work. You’re not going to get anywhere standing in place. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Estee-Lauder-business-quote-600x600.png 48. “Yesterday’s home runs don’t win today’s games.” – Babe Ruth This has been said in many ways, but sometimes it takes the sports analogy to get it to sink through. Of course, for Ruth, this wasn’t a metaphor but a fact. However, it also applies to business motivational quotes. We can’t rest on past glory. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Babe-Ruth-business-quote-600x600.png 49. “The only place where success comes before work is in the dictionary.” – Vidal Sassoon It’s a funny way to look at things, but there’s truth in the fact that success is not something we are handed. It is something we must work on. Success isn’t inheritance. While we might get handed great wealth, power and prestige, it’s what we do with it that counts. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Visal-Sassoon-business-quote-600x600.png 50. “The key is to listen to your heart and let it carry you in the direction of your dreams.” – Michael Dell One of the most uplifting business motivational quotes, this reminds entrepreneurs that passion is a driving force. Quotes like this encourage leaders to pursue projects that align with their vision, fueling motivation and innovation. 51. “The only way around is through.” – Robert Frost What the great American poet is saying is that there is no way to avoid what must be done. We cannot go around the difficulties in our lives or business but face them head-on and work through them. Just having the courage to do that is the hallmark of success. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Robert-Frost-business-quote-600x600.png 52. “High expectations are the key to absolutely everything.” – Sam Walton The founder of Walmart was onto something with this business motivational quote. It teaches that setting high standards drives performance and culture. For business owners, quotes like this inspire teams to aim higher, focus on excellence and consistently deliver their best. 53. “The future belongs to those who believe in the beauty of their dreams.” – Eleanor Roosevelt The wife of a United States president is called a first lady, but they’re often last in terms of influence. Not Eleanor Roosevelt, whose husband, FDR, saw the country through the Great Depression and WWII. She was no slouch herself. She advocated for women in the workforce and civil rights and remained active in politics after her husband died in 1945. She believed in the beauty of her dreams, many of which came true. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Eleanor-Roosevelt-business-quote-600x600.png 54. “Success is liking yourself, liking what you do and liking how you do it.” – Maya Angelou It’s easy to define success by what others think. The world seems to only appreciate money, status and power. But when measured against those unreachable expectations, no matter what success one has it quickly turns to failure. Maya Angelou certainly gained literary success but understood the real story. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Maya-Angelou-business-quote-600x600.png 55. “There’s no such thing as the right time. Get out there and take a chance.” – Kevin Plank One of the most practical business quotes reminds leaders that action beats waiting. Inspirational business quotes like this encourage taking initiative, embracing uncertainty and moving forward with confidence. 56. “The secret of business is to know something that nobody else knows.” – Aristotle Onassis He might be more famous for marrying Jackie Kennedy than for his entrepreneurial expertise, but don’t let the glitz blind you. Aristotle Onassis was a business magnate who amassed the world’s largest privately owned shipping fleet. He probably did that by knowing something his competitors didn’t. It’d be wise to take his advice. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Aristotle-business-quote-600x600.png 57. “To succeed in business, to reach the top, an individual must know all it is possible to know about the business.” – J. Paul Getty The man behind Getty Oil Company knows a thing or two about succeeding in business. He made it to the top and those who want to follow him to the pinnacle of success would do well to take his advice seriously. Whatever the field, knowledge is king and learning is never done. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/J-Paul-Getty-business-quote-600x600.png 58. “Do not wait to strike till the iron is hot; but make it hot by striking” – William Butler Yeats The poet might not be the first person a businessman seeks to learn about their trade. But one would be foolish to ignore poets, who are not only masters of language but use words to offer valuable insights. Yeats knew that it’s universally true that procrastination is an excuse that prevents one from acting when it’s the action that reeks the rewards. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/William-Butler-Years-business-quote-2-600x600.png 59. “The best way to do it, is to do it.” – Amelia Earhart Though best known today for her tragic flight that ended with her and her plane disappearing in the Pacific Ocean, she was an aviation pioneer and early advocate of women’s rights. She led the way for female pilots and has become a cultural icon. Her advice is sound, even if it didn’t end the way she wanted. But the point is in the trying. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Amelia-Earhard-business-quote-600x600.png 60. “It’s not about ideas. It’s about making ideas happen.” – Scott Belsky Scott Belsky is an American entrepreneur, author and investor. He’s the chief product officer for Adobe Creative Cloud. In other words, he walks the talk of turning ideas into reality. Think of it, everyone has a bright idea. They’re a dime a dozen. But it’s those people who do the work to make it happen who are remembered. /wp-content/uploads/2019/07/Scott-Belsky-business-quote-600x600.png Bonus Quote: “The best investment is in the tools of one’s own trade.” – Benjamin Franklin Benjamin Franklin was one of the founders of the United States of America, but even beyond that revolutionary achievement, he was an inventor and businessman who knew the importance of having the right tools for the job. How to Give an Actually Thoughtful Gift (Without Consulting ChatGPT)
A good gift should say, "I see you. I know you. I've been paying attention." In other words, it's the thought that counts—so don't take "thought" out of the equation by turning to ChatGPT for any part of your gift-giving this holiday season. Sure, ChatGPT can rapidly generate gift lists based on demographics, trending items, and surface-level interests. But a truly meaningful gift transcends data points—which, besides, can be far from foolproof. An AI chatbot can suggest a bestselling cookbook for someone who likes cooking, but we're at risk of losing something far more valuable than perfectly matched presents: genuine human connection. The art of gift-giving isn't about finding the most objectively impressive item, but about communicating love, understanding, and personal investment. Instead of using AI, let's tackle some practical strategies for thoughtful gift-giving. How to give a thoughtful giftThe task of capturing a perfectly unique understanding of the gift recipient's inner world is daunting, to say the least. Luckily, that's not the task at hand. All you need is a human touch. Do a memory diveReflect on conversations you've had with the recipient over the past year. What stories did they tell? What challenges did they overcome? What moments made them laugh or feel vulnerable? Some more tips for researching your friend: Review old text messages and emails, or even look through social media posts. And of course, don't be afraid to ask their close friends or family for insights. When word gets back to them that you put in so much effort, they'll surely be moved—and, you know, not in the "AI psychosis" way. Research their interestsGo beyond surface-level hobbies. If someone loves art, don't just buy art supplies. A good rule is to remember that people usually buy themselves whatever they need for their hobbies. So, it's important to find something they wouldn't get themselves. In this artist example, consider some accoutrements: A painting class they can take with a friend Museum tickets A book about an artist they like Throw in a handwritten note explaining why you selected this specific item. Again: Since it's the thought that counts, it helps to always explain your thinking. Even if you can't find the perfect story or connection behind the gift, there are ways to express that you put thought into it. Do a mind mapIf you ever need to come up with any sort of idea for anything, a mind map is your best friend. Create a gift "mind map" that connects: Their interests Shared memories Inside jokes Aspirational goals Nostalgia And just because I argue against feeding the AI beast, that doesn't mean you need to be all on your own. Check out gift guides written by real people, like, say, Lifehacker's own Stephen Johnson. The bottom lineGift-giving isn't about robotic perfection. A $10 item selected with a little heart will always outweigh a $100 item selected by an algorithm. Go for handmade items, curated experience gifts, or something that references specific shared memories. Like I mention above, a handwritten note goes a long way. Hey, make a note of the fact that you didn't use ChatGPT, and instead had a nice afternoon reflecting about this person! That sort of message is worth way more than whatever you end up gifting. So if any of my loved ones are reading this, please: Put down the AI prompt. Pick up a notebook. Reflect. Remember. Connect. (New running sneakers, size 8.) Your imperfect, human-generated gift will always be more perfect than any robot-recommended present. View the full article

Advanced software often employs machine learning algorithms to analyze customer data, predicting which rewards appeal to different segments. Customization may as well include personalized promotions or surprise rewards triggered by specific customer actions, incentivizing repeat purchases. Effective rewards customization leverages real-time analytics, enabling quick adaptations based on changing customer preferences and market trends, ensuring your loyalty program remains relevant and effective. You Can Use 'Circle to Search' to Identify Scams on Android
Android users are getting more tools to combat the seemingly endless stream of scam texts from bad actors looking to steal your data and your money. Circle to Search and Google Lens can now assess messages for scam red flags, and if possible fraud is detected, you'll get recommendations for what to do (or not do) next. Even if you think you know the telltale signs of a scam—a sense of urgency, a demand for money or personal information, a link to log in or pay—using these tools can confirm your suspicions, especially when you feel pressured to act. Use Circle to Search to identify scamsTo activate Circle to Search, long press the home button or navigation bar on your device and circle the text you want to scan. Alternatively, you can take a screenshot, open Lens in the Google app (also available on iOS), and tap the screenshot. The feature works for text messages as well as communication on messaging apps and social media sites. Google says the capability is available "when our systems have high confidence in the quality of the response." This is just the latest in the Google's suite of security features meant to protect against fraud. Pixel users have real-time, AI-powered scam detection, which identifies and alerts you to suspicious conversational patterns in Google Messages and Phone by Google. In-call protections for Android prevent you from taking certain actions, such as sideloading new apps and changing accessibility permission, on your device while on the phone with anyone not saved in your contacts. Earlier this month, Google also expanded its in-call scam detection feature, meant to combat bank impersonation schemes, to U.S. users. If you are on a call with a number that's not in your contacts and try to open a participating financial app, you'll get a notification reminding you not to share information and a one-click option to stop screen-sharing and end the call. Some advice from Gen Z—try Venmoing cash for Christmas
I personally can never bring myself to tell people that I’d rather forgo their gift and just get cash instead—or better yet, a Venmo. It feels almost too blunt, a cheap shot. So each year, when I unwrap another pair of socks, I smile through gritted teeth. I feel a twinge of guilt in admitting it. But, to my relief, it appears I’m not the only one. A new Wells Fargo survey finds younger generations are driving a shift toward digital cash gifts, choosing convenience and flexibility over traditional wrapped presents. A staggering 45% of Gen Z and 42% of millennials say they’d rather receive digital payments, compared with 27% of Gen X and just 10% of baby boomers. “I feel like we’re influenced by older generations,” Steve Selfridge, Wells Fargo’s product management director, said to USA Today. “We’re kind of taught it’s not OK to ask for money.” Physical gifts are still popular—but money is quickly catching up. About 48% of gift recipients prefer cash or checks, and 29% would like digital payments through Venmo, Zelle, PayPal, or Cash App. Gift-givers aren’t quite as enthusiastic about it: Only 34% enjoy giving cash or checks, and 18% digital payments. Among younger gift-givers, 32% of Gen Z and 28% of millennials are comfortable sending digital cash, compared to 11% of Gen X and 7% of baby boomers. It’s not just you, asking for money is awkward I’ve even tried practicing a polite, non-offensive script for requesting money from my family for Christmas—but when the moment comes, it just feels uncomfortably awkward. Survey data backs this up: More than half of gift-givers say sending digital cash “feels impersonal,” and nearly half of recipients admit they’d appreciate it, but feel weird asking. Still, the perks are hard to ignore: 65% of consumers agree that receiving digital cash gives them freedom to choose what they really want, and the same number cite gifting it as convenient—no wrapping, postage, or shipping stress. Roughly a third also say they appreciate digital gifts because they usually don’t like most physical presents, and 32% would like to give money digitally but aren’t sure it’s socially acceptable. So next time you’re stuck on what to gift a Gen Zer, it might be simpler than you think: Just send them money. View the full article

Types and Stages of Conflict What types of conflicts can arise in the workplace, and how do they unfold? Conflicts in the workplace can be categorized into three main types: inner conflict, interpersonal conflict, and group conflict. Inner conflict involves personal dilemmas, often stemming from ethical issues or personal values. Interpersonal conflict arises from differences between individuals, usually driven by communication styles and differing goals. Group conflict occurs between teams or departments, often over resources or policies, and can intensify when interpersonal disputes spill over, affecting team dynamics and productivity. These conflicts typically progress through five stages. First, latent conflict represents underlying tensions that may not be recognized. Next is perceived conflict, where one party becomes aware of the issue. This leads to felt conflict, characterized by emotional responses. Manifest conflict is when the issue is openly expressed, and finally, the conflict aftermath involves either resolution or suppression. Comprehending these types and stages is essential for effective conflict management. Strategies for Resolving Conflict When resolving conflict, adopting a win/win approach can greatly improve outcomes for everyone involved. Emotional intelligence likewise plays an essential role, as it helps you understand your emotions and those of others, nurturing better communication. Win/Win Approach The Win/Win approach to conflict resolution stands as a potent strategy designed to promote collaboration and guarantee that both parties’ needs are met. This method emphasizes high assertiveness and high cooperativeness, making it ideal for situations with multiple stakeholders. Here are three key strategies to implement this approach effectively: Encourage open communication: Nurture an environment where both parties feel safe expressing their thoughts and concerns. Brainstorm diverse ideas: Collaborate to generate creative solutions that address the underlying issues rather than just the symptoms of conflict. Focus on mutual benefits: Identify goals that satisfy both parties to transform conflicts into opportunities for shared learning. The latter steps involve creative problem-solving and formulating collaborative action plans, ensuring that all parties have defined roles and timelines. Step One: Identifying the Conflict Identifying the conflict serves as the vital first step in the resolution process, laying the groundwork for effective dialogue. Start by gathering information about the conflict’s cause through probing questions like, “When did you feel upset?” and “How did this incident begin?” This approach helps you understand each party’s perspective. It’s important to remain impartial during listening to both disputants, using acknowledgments such as “I see” or “uh huh” to encourage openness. Remember, the situation may not be the root cause of anger; minor issues from the past could contribute to the current conflict. Encourage disputants to reflect on their experiences and feelings, as this can reveal underlying issues. Step Two: Actively Listen Active listening is vital in conflict resolution, as it guarantees all parties feel acknowledged and respected. By fully concentrating on the speaker and showing engagement through body language, you pave the way for clearer communication. Here are three key components to practice active listening: Acknowledge Concerns: Use nodding and maintain eye contact to demonstrate your attentiveness, which helps prevent misinterpretations during discussions. Paraphrase and Summarize: Restate the speaker’s points to confirm comprehension and clarify any ambiguities, nurturing a cooperative dialogue. Ask Open-Ended Questions: Encourage the speaker to elaborate on their feelings and perspectives, allowing for deeper exploration of the issues at hand. Utilizing emotional intelligence during this process, such as recognizing non-verbal cues, can improve empathy and strengthen relationships between conflicting parties. This makes active listening a vital step in resolving conflicts effectively. Step Three: Learn and Find Common Ground Finding common ground is vital in conflict resolution, as it allows conflicting parties to shift their focus from individual disputes to shared interests and objectives. By recognizing and comprehending each other’s perspectives, you can uncover common goals that align departments or teams in the direction of collective success. Collaborative decision-making improves relationships among team members, redirecting the focus from conflict to collective progress. In the end, emphasizing shared learning and comprehending differing perspectives leads to sustainable solutions that benefit all parties, nurturing a more cohesive work environment. Step Five: Moving Forward Together Moving forward together requires all parties to agree on a collaborative action plan that clearly outlines the next steps in the conflict resolution process. To achieve this, consider implementing the following strategies: Establish a resource-sharing schedule that guarantees fairness and equitable distribution of responsibilities among team members. This clarity helps everyone understand their contributions. Set up regular meetings to assess the effectiveness of the action plan. These sessions allow for ongoing evaluation and adjustments based on evolving situations, keeping everyone on track. Clearly define responsibilities and timelines for each participant. Accountability is essential; when everyone knows their role, it improves cooperation and strengthens the team’s commitment to resolving conflicts. Responsibilities of Leaders in Conflict Resolution As teams move forward together, leaders play a pivotal role in guaranteeing conflicts are addressed effectively. They must acknowledge personal disputes and guide employees in resolving their own issues, nurturing a collaborative work environment. Upholding ethical, legal, and economic responsibilities is essential; leaders should prioritize employee well-being and guarantee fair treatment throughout the conflict resolution process. Geminids peak 2025: A meteor shower will light up the December sky tonight. Here’s what time to look up
If the holiday hustle and bustle is stressing you out, the night sky is providing a perfect moment to pause and wonder at some majesty this weekend, as the Geminid meteor shower (Geminids) is set to peak. The Geminids are technically active annually—this year, from around December 1 through 21, and the action peaks on the evenings of the 12th and 13th. Let’s take a look at the science and history behind this cosmic phenomenon, before we dive into how best to view it. When was the Geminid meteor shower first discovered? These days, the Geminid meteor shower is considered by NASA to be “one of the best and most reliable annual meteor showers.” The event started much smaller. The meteors were first observed in the mid-1800s and only boasted 10-20 meteors an hour. As time went on, Jupiter got in on the action. The planet’s gravity pulled the show closer to Earth. What causes the Geminids? It wasn’t until the 1980s that scientists understood the cause of the meteor shower was asteroid 3200 Phaethon. Typically, meteor showers are caused by a comet. Asteroid 3200 Phaethon acts like a comet, despite most asteroids taking 1.4 years to fully orbit the sun. Scientists are still learning about this unique space object. A 2023 article, published in Planetary Science Journal by California Institute of Technology PhD student Qicheng Zhang, stated that when the asteroid approaches the sun, it forms a sodium-gas tail instead of dust. This challenges earlier beliefs about the object. It is now hypothesized that the dense Geminid meteoroids are a result of a possible past mass loss, not an ongoing tail shedding around the sun. Regardless, the average person will delight in the vivid burst of light as the meteoroids burn up in Earth’s atmosphere. How best to see the Geminids Scientists and night-sky enthusiasts can agree that whatever label you assign 3200 Phaethon, it puts on one heck of a show. This year’s offerings are best seen in the northern hemisphere, although some meteors will be visible to the southern hemisphere as well. The moon is also cooperating, as it will be in its waning crescent moon phase and not shining too brightly. When nightfall comes on December 12 and 13, find the darkest place you can, away from city lights. Special viewing equipment such as binoculars or telescopes are not necessary—especially since meteors move quickly. The action originates around the Gemini constellation, but you should not just focus there. Look at the entire night sky. If you do miss the peak viewing time, the days around the December 12 and 13 peak should still offer quite a show. View the full article

Utah Businessman Sentenced to Prison for Fraudulently Securing PPP Funds
In a stark reminder that fraud will not go unpunished, Troy Campbell, a businessman from Taylorsville, Utah, was sentenced to 18 months in prison for defrauding the Paycheck Protection Program (PPP). This case, part of an ongoing crackdown on COVID-19-related fraud, underscores the importance of integrity in the small business community and the potential repercussions of deceptive practices. From July 2020 until February 2023, Campbell orchestrated a scheme that led him to fraudulently obtain $437,230 in PPP loan funds intended to support small businesses during the pandemic. According to U.S. District Court records, Campbell, the registered agent and owner of Salt IT Solutions LLC, submitted a PPP application containing false representations about his business’s payroll and employee count. He claimed a monthly payroll of $174,892.17 and listed 22 employees, leveraging fake tax documents that had never been filed with the IRS. This fraudulent behavior culminated in a series of actions that further implicated Campbell, including transferring $75,000 of the loan proceeds to another participant in the scheme. The ramifications of Campbell’s actions extend beyond his own legal troubles. U.S. Attorney Melissa Holyoak emphasized how fraudsters like him negatively impact legitimate small business owners who genuinely required assistance during the pandemic. “Mr. Campbell’s crimes impacted all taxpaying citizens and small business owners that legitimately needed pandemic-related assistance during a challenging time,” she stated. This case serves as a significant warning to small business owners: while government assistance programs such as the PPP are designed to help you weather tough times, they come with strict eligibility requirements and rigorous oversight. The Small Business Administration (SBA) and law enforcement agencies, including the FBI, are taking active steps to investigate and prosecute fraud cases. “Mr. Campbell enriched himself with money meant to keep Americans working during a national crisis,” remarked Special Agent in Charge Robert Bohls of the Salt Lake City FBI. This message rings clear—fraud not only harms individual businesses but also undermines essential support systems that communities rely on. Small business owners should recognize both the benefits these programs offer and the strict regulations governing them. Access to PPP loans enabled many businesses to preserve jobs, pay rent, and cover utilities during a period of significant economic uncertainty. But, with these funds comes responsibility. Ensuring that all applications are accurate and reflect genuine business operations is crucial to avoiding legal repercussions. As of now, the Department of Justice has pursued over 150 defendants in over 95 criminal cases related to PPP fraud, securing more than $75 million in restitutions and assets from individuals exploiting these relief efforts. This level of scrutiny should make any small business owner reconsider any temptation to engage in dishonest practices. With ongoing initiatives designed to oversee the allocation of pandemic relief funds, legitimate businesses must remain vigilant and fully comply with all guidelines and regulations. Reports indicate that authorities are committed to holding accountable anyone who attempts to undermine the integrity of these programs. Thus, the sentencing of Troy Campbell serves not only as a penalty for his actions but also as a critical lesson for the small business community. Navigating the complexities of financial assistance programs can feel overwhelming, but adherence to ethical standards is non-negotiable. Complying with regulations not only protects your business from legal ramifications but also contributes to the integrity of the overall economic recovery process. For more information on the ongoing efforts to combat fraud related to the PPP, visit Justice.gov. Keeping informed can equip business owners with the knowledge needed to avoid pitfalls and remain within the bounds of the law, ensuring that they can focus on what truly matters—sustaining and growing their businesses. Wealthfront IPO: Stock price closely watched today as financial platform starts trading on the Nasdaq
Wealthfront Corp. is looking to rake in the wealth after going public on Friday. The Palo Alto-based automated digital wealth platform raised $486 million after selling 43.6 million shares, putting the company’s valuation at roughly $2 billion. Wealthfront shares began trading on the Nasdaq under the ticker “WLTH.” The company made more than 34.6 million shares of common stock available for the IPO for $14—an offering that expires on Monday, December 15. The stock was up around 4% by mid-afternoon on Friday afternoon after trading began. To mark the occasion, the company’s leadership—including CEO David Fortunato, cofounder and chairman Andy Rachleff, and cofounder Dan Carroll—rang the opening bell at Nasdaq MarketSite in Times Square. Courting Gen Z and millennial investors The listing has been a long time coming. Wealthfront was founded in 2008 under the name KaChing. In 2011, it was reborn as Wealthfront, and over the past decade or so, has become known for its automated investment products and services—something young investors have found particularly alluring. Wealthfront refers to these consumers as “digital natives,” defining them as people born after 1980. The fintech also offers other financial products, such as high-yield savings accounts, and will soon start offering home lending services. Its filing documents with the Securities and Exchange Commission (SEC) show that the company has $88 billion in assets under management. For the six months ended July 31, it had net income of nearly $61 million on revenue of almost $176 million. In an interview with Yahoo Finance on Friday, Fortunato said that the company will remain competitive in a tight market for a key reason: Wealthfront can offer many of the same services as traditional banks but at lower costs. “[Customers] are going to be able to invest, save, and borrow from Wealthfront at a better cost than they would otherwise,” he said. He added that attracting customers early and sticking with them for the long haul has helped position Wealthfront for growth. “Our goal is to compound with our clients for decades,” he said. Wealthfront joins other large fintech companies in going public this year, including Chime Financial and Klarna Group. Since its IPO in June, Chime shares are down more than 23%, and Klarna, which went public in September, has seen its shares fall by almost 28%. View the full article

Kalshi users are in an uproar over their Time ‘Person of the Year’ bets
Time magazine has named the “Architects of AI” as its 2025 Person of the Year, a decision that has sparked significant backlash from gamblers who lost out on semantics. The companies behind AI tools and infrastructure aren’t “AI” in the literal sense, so prediction markets Kalshi and Polymarket ruled that anyone betting on “AI” doesn’t win. As author Parker Molloy pointed out on Bluesky, gamblers on the site are not pleased. “Someone please explain to me how this is not a trick?” one user complained after betting on billionaire Elon Musk on Kalshi. “Person of the year is a singular title…” “ThE aRcHiTeCtS oF AI,” another user wrote. “Fuck you pay me.” Others remained insistent that the platform owes them a payout. “This pretty clearly should’ve resolved to yes,” one user wrote. “If you bought AI, reach out to Kalshi support because ‘AI’ is literally on the cover and in the title ‘Architects of AI.’” On Kalshi, anyone who bet on any of the “Architects of AI”—including Sam Altman, Elon Musk, Jensen Huang, Dario Amodei, Mark Zuckerberg, Lisa Su, and Demis Hassabis—still won the bet. Those who bet their products, however, did not. People who bet on this on Kalshi are not pleased. Lol — Parker Molloy (@parkermolloy.com) 2025-12-11T16:19:54.852Z Polymarket explained the decision in a note. “This market is about the person/thing named as TIME’s Person of the Year for 2025, not what is depicted on the cover. Per the rules, “If the Person of the Year is ‘Donald The President and the MAGA movement,’ this would qualify to resolve this market to ‘The President.’ However if the Person of the Year is ‘The MAGA movement,’ this would not qualify to resolve this market to ‘The President’ regardless of whether The President is depicted on the cover,” it said. “Accordingly, a Time cover which lists ‘Architects of AI’ as the person of the year will not qualify for ‘AI’ even if the letters ‘AI’ are depicted on the cover, as AI itself is not specifically named.” People spent more than $19 million betting on the Time Person of the Year on Kalshi and more than $55 million betting on the Time Person of the Year on Polymarket. “I can’t believe an unregulated gambling market let people bet frivolously and then took all their money,” one Bluesky user mused. Trump sued by preservationists over his White House ballroom project
President Donald The President was sued on Friday by preservationists asking a federal court to halt his White House ballroom project until it goes through multiple independent reviews and wins approval from Congress. The National Trust for Historic Preservation is asking the U.S. District Court to block The President’s White House ballroom project, which already has involved razing the East Wing, until it goes through comprehensive design reviews, environmental assessments, public comments, and congressional debate and ratification. The National Trust, a privately funded organization, argues that The President, by fast-tracking the project, has committed multiple violations of the Administrative Procedures Act and the National Environmental Policy Act, while also exceeding his constitutional authority by not seeking congressional approval for a project of such scale. “No president is legally allowed to tear down portions of the White House without any review whatsoever—not President The President, not President Biden, and not anyone else,” the lawsuit states. “And no president is legally allowed to construct a ballroom on public property without giving the public the opportunity to weigh in.” No more work should be done, the Trust argues, until administration officials “complete the required reviews—reviews that should have taken place before the Defendants demolished the East Wing, and before they began construction of the Ballroom—and secure the necessary approvals.” White House press secretary Karoline Leavitt did not immediately respond to Associated Press questions about the lawsuit and the project, including whether the president had any intention of consulting Congress. The President has emphasized since announcing his plans that he’s doing it with private funding, including his own money. But that would not necessarily change how federal laws and procedures apply to what is still a U.S. government project. The President, a Republican, already has bypassed the federal government’s usual building practices and historical reviews with the East Wing demolition. He recently added another architectural firm for a ballroom that itself would be nearly twice the size of the White House before the East Wing’s demolition. The President has said a ballroom is overdue for the White House, previously complaining that events were held outside under a tent because the East Room and the State Dining Room could not accommodate bigger crowds. The President, among other complaints, said guests get their feet wet if it rains during such events. The White House is expected to submit plans for The President’s new ballroom to a federal planning commission before the year ends, about three months after construction began. Will Scharf, who was named by The President as chairman of the National Capital Planning Commission, said at the panel’s monthly meeting last week that he was told by colleagues at the White House that the long-awaited plans would be filed in December. “Once plans are submitted, that’s really when the role of this commission, and its professional staff, will begin,” said Scharf, who also is one of the Republican president’s top White House aides. He said the review process would happen at a “normal and deliberative pace.” —By Bill Barrow, Associated Press View the full article

10 Hacks Every Traveler Should Know
We may earn a commission from links on this page. We travel for a wide variety of reasons—vacations, business, family obligations—and in a variety of different ways, but there’s one constant: The actual traveling can be hectic, stressful, and expensive. Considering Americans took nearly 2 billion trips in 2025 alone, that stress can be pretty epic. From planning to de-boarding, travel can be a challenge—that is, unless you know and utilize these hacks. There are a lot of travel hacks out there in the wild, many of them dubious, but when a hack actually works to lower your costs, increase your comfort, or simply solve an irritating problem, it’s kind of magical. Here are the essential travel hacks everyone should be implementing, whether you’re traveling for pleasure, business, or any other reason. Get a vacuum-seal travel backpackYou may have been instructed at some point to roll your clothes to make your packing more efficient. It’s not that this doesn’t work—rolling clothes tightly can improve your packing and unpacking experience. But there’s an even better way: Vacuum-sealing. You can use vacuum-sealed storage bags to compress your clothes, allowing you to fit more into your bag (or to travel much lighter with a single carry-on), but there’s a downside: The Transportation Security Administration (TSA) may require you to uncompress your clothes for a special check as you pass through security, which can wreak havoc on your packing. A better choice is a carry-on backpack with an included pump, like this. If you are flagged for a special inspection, you can quickly re-compress everything and be on your way. Travel during off-peak timesIf your main goal for travel is to see exotic places, have new experiences, or even see old friends, traveling off-peak is a powerful hack. Off-peak simply means going places when most tourists aren’t there. Most people travel for pleasure during the warmer months, for example, so deciding you’re going on a European tour in February nets you cheaper flights, cheaper hotel rooms, and less crowded everything. Start using packing cubesRaise your hand if this has ever happened to you: You realize you need something from a piece of luggage you spent six hours carefully organizing, compressing, and zipping closed. You dig through everything to find what you need, and then re-packing that bag is a sweaty, stressful fail. That’s where packing cubes come in. Packing cubes don’t necessarily shrink your clothes and other possessions, but they make the whole experience of packing, unpacking, and actually finding stuff while you’re traveling much easier. They turn your chaotic piles of clothing and supplies into geometric cubes that can be organized individually and removed and replaced in your luggage easily. Because you’re dealing with uniform cubes, popping stuff in and out of your suitcase won’t result in a nervous breakdown, either. Stash clothing in carry-on pillowsIt’s truly a time to be alive: You can now purchase so-called “basic” economy airline seats that don’t allow a carry-on. And carry-on fees and restrictions are increasing as well. If you’re attempting to travel with just one small bag, you may find it a struggle—and that’s where the pillow hack comes into play. The basic idea is simple: Grab a neck pillow or pillowcase, remove the stuffing, and jam in some extra clothes instead. The pillow can still be used as a pillow (your clothes act as the cushion), but you get to smuggle extra stuff on the plane. It does work, though it works best with the neck pillow option—bringing an enormous pillowcase filled with jeans and T-shirts is going to be less successful fooling unamused flight crews. Mount your phone horizontallyEntertaining yourself on long flights can be a challenge, especially if your whole survival plan involved sleeping for ten hours and you can’t seem to get comfortable. If your plane doesn’t offer convenient screens (I’m very fond of the “tiny screen up in the air four rows ahead of me” arrangement, myself), or the entertainment choices available aren’t appealing, you can always load up a device with movies, shows, and games. If you find yourself stuck with just your phone for a screen, you can improv a phone holder from the barf bag typically supplied in the pocket of the seat in front of you, as demonstrated here. By clipping the bag between your phone and its case, then clipping the top of the bag under the fold-down tray, you can mount your phone horizontally at the right height for watching content. This could be a real sanity-saver (assuming you don't need to use that bag for, well, other purposes). Pay for everyday expenses with a travel credit cardYou’re spending money practically every day anyway—but by putting all those expenses on a credit card that awards you miles or points toward travel (and then paying that card off in full every month) you’re essentially getting free travel coupons. You’re going to buy groceries anyway, so why not get a hundred miles every time you do? Many travel credit cards offer large sign-up bonuses of anywhere from 20,000 to 100,000 points (or more) once you spend a certain amount on the account, so by paying your everyday bills for a few months using the card you can fund an entire trip for free. Reverse-image-search your Airbnb before you bookBooking a place to stay on your trip can be a hassle, and you have to wonder if you’re getting the best deal. An Airbnb might look ideal but put a big dent in your budget—but it may be listed elsewhere, and possibly for less money. You can find out using Google’s “reverse image lookup.” Pick a photo from the Airbnb listing, search for the image on Google, and other rental platforms will probably show up—or a link to a hotel’s direct web page. If nothing else, the image search might identify the apartment building or hotel depicted, which can give you a leg up on the pricing. There are also tools like HiChee that will compare listings across several platforms for you, but where’s the fun in that? Use a pants hanger to clip your curtains closedYou drag yourself, exhausted, into a hotel room at night and don’t notice that the curtains on the windows are hanging loose. You collapse into bed, and then you’re awakened at 6 a.m. by a vengeful sun, shining through the gaps in those curtains. This hack is so simple, but it can make a big difference in your sleep quality: Take a pants hanger from your hotel closet (the ones with the metal clips) and clip your room’s curtain shut. When the morning sunlight tries to infiltrate your room and wake you up first thing in the morning, the clips will keep it out. Store one shoe in the hotel safeIf you use the safe supplied in your hotel room to store some valuables or your essential travel documents, the worst thing you can do is forget them when you check out. A quick hack to ensure that doesn’t happen is to put something you can’t possibly forget in there as well. Some folks suggest a shoe, figuring that when you’re getting dressed for the next leg of your journey, you’ll definitely notice if one shoe is missing. But this will work with anything, as long as you choose something you can’t possibly leave without. Download offline maps before you leaveWe once lived in a world where finding your way around a new area meant paper maps and confusing directions from friends that referenced a lot of fast food restaurants as landmarks. These days, we have access to military-grade GPS systems, and a pleasant computer voice will tell us to turn right in one hundred feet. That’s amazing when you’re traveling in an unfamiliar place—until you lose your internet connection. A great hack is to download offline maps of your destinations before you leave on your trip. You can do this with Google Maps or using an app like HERE WeGo. This requires some planning, as you have to download the maps while you have a signal, but once you have them downloaded you can use them more or less as you normally would, getting directions and seeing distances clearly. Take a moment to do this before every trip, and you’ll never be lost again. View the full article
